The narration was a distraction

It was not needed and detracted from the movie.

One of the many things I've learned here at the olde IMDb is that movies with narration, movies shot in black and white, movies with flashbacks and/or non-linear timelines, movies with downbeat endings, movies made by people that the mass media "tells" us to hate, and movies where they "talk a lot" tend to receive the most negative criticism.

Absolutely love the narration. The narrator died young at 48 I see. His narration and delivery was perfect. I love the matter of fact delivery. Really worked for me. My favourite recent Allen film. Rate above midnight on Paris that I also love and of course blue Yasmine

Never have seen the movie before, decided to tune in. As the movie begins, who hear a male narrator. Me, never watched the flick before thought narrator voice was from described video. I spent the first 20 mins of the film trying to shut off my described video option. (my one year old daughter often turns "D-V" on) so yes very annoying indeed LOL

Agreed. I watched this last night for the first time in many years, and found more than ever that it was really unnecessary. I think the film would be better without it, but it's still very good.

I agree. It's like watching a short story. :(
