The name Pelle Svanslos (Svanslös) is a character from a Swedish famous writer named Gösta Knutsson. Pelle is a cat who was born without a proper tail (Svanslös = No tail)

I hardly think they (production company) want to be connected to murder and what not this "movie" has to bring.

I smell law-suit.

Thanks for sharing your "thoughts", but if you did some research you might have found out that:

>How do I copyright a name, title, slogan or logo?
>Copyright does not protect names, titles, slogans, or short phrases.

So with that in mind, i would be eligible to create a character with the name Sean Cain? Or anyone else for that matter.

Erna Knutsson, widow of late Gösta Knutsson has been informed about this, since it is a national icon it has caused some.. let´s just call it dismay amongst the Swedes. She let´s the people know that lawyers are looking into this atm.

Copyright does not protect slogans? That is just hilarious.

I guess you didn't bother to check the link I left for you to the official U.S. Government site. The answer is "yes". Unless, of course, you are creating a character based on a particular Sean Cain with the intent on slander. Then perhaps you might get into trouble...last time I looked my flick wasn't about cartoon cats missing their tails.

since it is a national icon it has caused some.. let´s just call it dismay amongst the Swedes.

And you thought copyrights not protecting slogans was hilarious?? No, this is the true height of hilarity!! The nation of Sweden up in arms about a microbudget horror film that hardly anyone has seen.

d_man24 you have truly made my day! Thank you!! I can just picture Mrs. Knutsson releasing an official statement to the "people" of Sweden. Getting out her megaphone and standing on a soapbox warning the vikings about the terrible trouble of this particular DVD. LOL LOL LOL!!!

Right you are. I didn´t bother to sift through it. Not even a peek.

But then again, slander for one might be entertainment for another right?

Don´t you research your characters before production, or even the draft is made up?

But then again.. I´m glad this "wannabe-troma-ripoff" (Not my words, quoted from a moviezine which name i now sadly forgotten) is getting the well sought attention it really need.

Have a great day sir. I might even watch a copy of it one day. Still not sure though.

I hope you do get a chance to check out the movie.

Also, if you happen to remember which moviezine that was let me know. I'd love to read the review.

hehe, there was just a short article about this in a swedish newspaper, so I decided to take a look here.

I'm not familiar with (any country's) copyright laws, and I couldn't care less if Cain "stole" this name (so, theoretically I could make a movie starring a character Ellen Ripley, or game with a character named Zelda or Solid Snake? Just as long as the movie and games themselves are different from the originals? Cool). But seriously, couldn't Cain come up with a better name? Or at least "steal" a cooler name?

I mean, Pelle Tailless. what kind of a name is that for a human? It doesn't even make sense! Humans don't have any tails to begin with (so I guess in a manner it's true)

and no, I won't watch this movie. not my cup of tea so to speak

For the record, all mammals including humans have some sort of "tail." Humans have tails for a while during the early stages before birth. We retain a "tailbone" but in some rare cases people have kept a small visible tail.

It was off topic but just thought I'd add that after xeno's statement that we don't. Anyhow.
