quite a good movie, but...

I've just watched it, I think the acting of the scotish actors is really very good. The story is not bad either, but the problems is that the portray of the Chinese stowaways is so incorrect, especially of the girl. Maybe because Scottish (British) people know so little about Chinese (only poor miserable stowaways?), but it's nonsense to see such a young girl alone. You know why? Because it's much easier for such a stupid young girl to find a job in China rather than in Britain, and she can not speak English at all! Besides, in China it really costs a lot to send someone abroad, even it's illegal (actually going as stowaways costs too much that only very few people can afford it...) So if the girl's family is in short of money as she said, they will never do such a stupid thing, or they won't be able to do such a stupid thing, spending all their money, taking on a huge debt, and sending such a stupid young girl abroad who can never earn the money back. I know the writer needs an innocent character as the contrast, but the design of such an alone and angel-like Chinese girl as the stowaway is just a failure

- too innocent to become a devil, too cynical to become an angel -

the plight of the Chinese illegal immigrant is pretty secondary in this film so "Su Li" is more of a generic victim character than anything else. If you want to watch a truly empathetic/realistic film about the plight of Chinese illegal immigrants watch "Ghost" instead.

I was thinking the same thing. Was a bit of a let down concidering the cast. In my opinion.
