Leave John Cassavetes out of it!

John Cassavetes was a great writer/director. He created complex characters in complex situations and made compelling films. He didn't just grab a camera and film a bunch of boring, thoughtless hipsters talking literally about nothing.

These 'Mumblecore' films are by filmmakers with no actual talent or ideas for writing and directing. Cassavetes would have hated this so-called 'movement'. Mumblecore is just a marketing gimmick that showcases filmmakers with no ideas.

On a more supportive note, I'd say Andrew Bujalski is the only filmmaker associated with the scene that's worth taking notice of as he clearly hates the tag he's been given and looks as though he has bigger ambitions as a filmmaker.
