GO TO THE THEATERS!!!

Just for this, I'm never going to a theater again.

I think a sad moment in movie making is reflected by the fact that the acadamy kept giving awards to movies nobody saw.

reply

Or could the sadder fact be the people seeing "Big Momma's House 2" and "Revenge of the Sith" while shying away from challanging films like "Capote" and "Crash"?

Not to mention that "Walk the Line", "The Chronicles of Narnia" and "King Kong" were all blockbusters that won substantial awards.

reply

maybe i'd go to the theatre more often if it didnt cost 10 dollars a ticket, (in some instances, i have to pay to park) if i didnt have to see it with the "wonderful strangers" (who i cant stand) the academy president mentioned or if hollywood didnt put out so much junk, then maybe, just maybe i'd go to the theatre a little more often.

reply

I hate it when people say that Hollywood puts out "so much junk", because I honestly feel that between powerful small films like "Brokeback Mountain" and "Munich" and steller larger movies such as "Batman Begins", "The 40 Year Old Virgin" and "King Kong", there was a hell of a lot to be excited about this past year.

I mean, sure "The Pacifier" and "Are We There Yet?" were released, but why focus on the schlock when its so easy to ignore?

reply

When good horror movies come out and the world grows balls again and puts exploitation flicks back in the theaters, I will return.
As it is now, I can't stand watching crap like "House of Wax" with Vincent Price getting raped by pop corn munching teenagers.
Studio's RELEASE BETTER STUFF! Indies KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

First of all, the first two movies you mention are PG-13 while the other two are R. Of course they're going to have a larger audience. And second of all, you have the movie companies and distributers to blame for this not the public. I'm pretty sure people would those movies if they actually played in their area.

Number 1, I order you to go take a number 2.

I really did feel like the Academy was pimping out theatres this year, because of the box office drop. But I also feel as though they don't recognize a lot of the films I enjoy. Sin City, Serenity, Batman Begins, were three of my favorite movies of the year, but the sum total of oscar nods they got was one.

How much did the box office drop affect things? Like Jon Stewart said, "Some of these women could barely afford enough dress to cover their breasts..."
