They will be on the one 1 year from now, when they honor the 2006 deaths. Its always like that.

reply

It's not always like that. When Stanley Kubrick died just a few days before the telecast, they made it a point to mention it.

reply

ok maybe not always, but most of the time thats the way the oscars do it.

reply

and Chris Penn died this year, too.

reply

I was wondering the same thing.

reply

Maybe too recent for the lists?

reply

Okay then.

reply

I thought that too, bu Sean Penn was in there and he died in 2006. *** added after it was pointed out that I screwed up** I meant Chris Penn.

reply

chris penn dude, not sean penn

and yes he passed 1/24/06

reply

OOPS! Sorry- got a little fast with the penn ( get it)

reply

I think you mean Sean's brother Chris.

reply

I was also wondering where John Spencer was. I know he was more famous for his work in TV, but he was still in movies.

The cutoff date is Feb 1. Movie people who died before then are honored in the montage - that's why Penn was included but Knotts was not. Sports/Entertainment guru Bill Simmons discusses it here:

reply

According to the Academy Website the cutoff date is Feb. 15th.
