Anyone spot the Doctor Who references? (Spoilers)

I'm a Doctor Who fan and Stephen Moffat's episodes are always the best/most terrifying! I noticed throughout 'Jekyll' that there were little things that were also used in the Doctor Who episodes...

-The slow-mo blinking from the Episode 'Blink'

-Having a conversation with a pre-recorded video , also from 'Blink'

-'Daddy? Are you my Daddy?' similar to the gas-mask kid who said 'Mummy? Are you my Mummy?' in the same creepy voice!

Anyone spot any more?

I suppose it might be on purpose!

I never noticed any of them until you pointed them out really.

Even though it may have been on purpose i'm sure that those things have been used before doctor who.

They are two brilliant programs anyway so its all good!

I did notice the "Mummy? Are you my mummy?" reference, another Moffat written and therefore brilliant DW episode....

The box reminds me to the Tardis...

Definetely the talking to the video, except that turned on him because it was inside his head, much like the phone convos. So it's like Moffat took that idea he used in Blink and expanded on it majorly.

Also the switching around and confusion of timelines, much like in Blink (except JAckman/Hyde does not own a TARDIS. Thankfully, I think it would confuse the situation too much)

I need to return some videotapes

How did I miss those? lol. I suppose i wasn't thinking about Doctor Who whilst watching Jekyll. But it's true. lol. Give Moffat his own Series to write.....again. lol.

HEEEEERES JOHNNY!

Then this should make you very happy. According to the BBC website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/s4/news/latest/080520_news_01)

BBC Wales and BBC Drama has announced that Bafta and Hugo Award winning writer Steven Moffat will succeed Russell T Davies as Lead Writer and Executive Producer of the fifth series of Doctor Who, which will broadcast on BBC One in 2010.

Yay!

As soon as I heard Hyde say "Are you my daddy?" I stated laughing and pointing at the TV. I had to explain the whole Doctor Who thing to my parents lol. But besides that I also think the slightly mixed up time-line in the series reflects a few episodes of Moffats hit sitcom Coupling, particulalry "The End of the Line" which has a whole lot of lunacy going on that seems unconnected until it rewinds and you see the forst link int he chain. And also "9 1/2 Minutes" where we see the same events in the same timeline but from three different perspectives.
Moffat obviously like mucking around with time, as in Blink and he's very good at it (although I did hear him say once that he has to write things chronologicallyn to begin with and then chop them up and reorganize them, so he isn't actually crazy). I love his Doctor Who episodes, so happy he is taking over. That, Coupling and Jekyll are three of my favourite shows ever.

I've noticed that -- how Moffat has even managed to jam nonlinear narratives into Coupling I mean! He is AMAZING.

And how about the teeth, don't the 'Hyde' teeth look a lot like the 'weeping angels' teeth?

reply

Well, they're just fangs really and look like .......... fangs. :-)

That seemed like reaching to me, but it seems folks agree w/ you.

I was hoping for random police box sightings or something. ;)

As an aside...

I swear the UK only has like 20 actors. I keep seeing people I've seen in

Doctor Who
Torchwood
Hotel Babylon
Chef
Survivors
and of course, Jekyll....and they show up in all the shows! (not literally) Those are the only British shows I watch (being a dirty American) and I keep noticing these certain actors shuffling in and out.

This is more of a joke than a criticism. I'm always happy to see them and they're all fantastic actors. It's just funny cos you'll never see somebody from Lost on Law & Order (oh wait, Naveen Andrews) or Curb Your Enthusiasm (oh wait, Jorge Garcia).

Seriously though, you know what I mean. It seems like the guest actor pool is rather small.

I think I'll go make this a topic on the Doctor Who board & get yelled at.
