Uhhh, is it good?

Should I start watching this? Is it good? (IMDb gives it a 8.3 which is good, just want to see your opinion).

Thanks.

It's a lot more than good, it's utterly superb. Miss it at your peril. :-)

Lol, gotcha! :)

the first episode screened last night in australia on ABC1, and like you said before, it IS utterly superb. i chose this over the cricket last night which i rarely do. james nesbitt is just fantastic.

huh? I only had one banana!

reply

It'd mind-blowingly awesome! One of the few shows I watch right now.

reply

Just finished the last episode after not being able to look away for four hours. I'd watched the first two episodes last week and thought it was extremely entertaining, but after the first two it is visual crack. seriously.

reply

It is wonderful to see that there show JEKYLL everywhere it is a great show and hopeing for season2.

reply

Started watching. OMG. I think I just found my new obsession. XD

Marty: Show me the money, what-what!

reply

I bought the DVD set and have just finished watching it for the third time since the initial TV screening in the UK last Summer.

Stupendously brilliant in every way possible.

Visual crack someone called it? Yup, I'd say that's likely to be spot on. :-)

reply

Is it full on disturbing? Someone told me it wasnt very nice or something... I mean is it gory or yuck or anything?

reply

I wouldn't say it's excessively gory - no guts hanging out, etc although there are momements of moderate amounts of blood, but nothing excessive or stomach churning (not for me anyhow).

It's psychologically disturbing in parts, especially the last episode. That is though counter-balanced by moments of great humour and, yes, moments of decency, empathy and love.

Due to the excellent writing it all 'works' though - any disturbing moments don't feel as though they just been added on for effect or shock value, they all have a purpose and dovetail nicely into the general story arc.

That it is

I need to return some videotapes

Respectfully, I disagree with most of the comments. I think Jekyll offers nothing behind its slick, expensive facade. It does not make sense even within the logic of its own surreal universe. It is nothing more than an elaborate con game. I have just posted a user comment expanding on this.

reply

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this was AWFUL!! Dull, dull, dull - and really hammy acting. I actually can't believe how bad it is (and I've seen Plan 9 From Outer Space, and several Canadian movies).

reply

Isn't it fascinating how people's opinions differ so much? Such is our individuality.

I DETESTED the highly rated 'There Will Be Blood'. Can't see what people saw in it it to be honest, but as I'm not them, well, that's fair enough.

I think I'll always love Jekyll. I honestly cannot fault it (and that's unusual for me - I usually manage to find faults in the things I enjoy, even if they are only very minor faults).

Something else that I love to bits is The Fountain (many people detest that too!).

reply

Is it comparable to Dexter???

reply

For my tastes I would say that it's far superior to Dexter, but really it's like comparing apples and oranges - they're both fruits but with a very different taste and appearance.

I'd say give it a go - don't judge Jekyll by the first episode, watch at least the first two (or three) and see how it goes. It's easy to find it cheap on DVD and, as a bonus, the DVD set has a few commentaries, interviews and other extras. It's well worth a shot.

reply

Well you can call Hartswood Films and demand a buck or two cause you convinced me. I'm gettin it.

reply

I can assure you that I have no connection with Hartswood, but if I had then I'd be twisting their collective arms to get a second series made!

Let us know what you think of the series.

reply

Dexter is superior in just about every way possible. Comparison is laughable.

Jekyll has bad, unrealistic dialogue coupled with cringe-worthy attempts at comedy. Not to mention a whole spate of comedy actors in serious roles which removed any note of serious drama the show tried to aim for. The low budget didn't help either, but that's an aside to the other problems.

reply

lol...

Dexter is the dumbest serial killer on Earth.

I just finished watching the first episode and am still sitting on the fence as to wether it's a good show or not.

reply

Have you watched the rest yet? It gets even better ...........

reply

Sorry it took 4+ yrs to respond, but I just finished watching this Sunday night (Started Thursday, but wasn't home for the weekend) This mini-series is superb! I'm not one who is generally given to the "supernatural", "horror" or "paranormal" genres, but Moffat's writing is superceded only by Nesbitt's portrayal of the character(s).
Watching this has me now looking for more of both Moffat's (yes, I am well aware of Doctor Who, thanx)and Nesbitt's endeavours.

reply

Definitely good and enjoyable, just don't go in expecting a Sherlock level budget. You can tell this was a prove me show for Moffat, so it came with the usual short leash. He did prove himself however, and it's quite good if a little cliffhangery.
