This movie is a turkey in pretty clothes.

The actors pronounce the dialogue VERY c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y ... you know, like they are reading off cue cards. The real reason, I suppose, is that the producers of the film assume much of their audience will have English as a second language and, well, they had to keep things simple.

Also, the actors NEVER interrupt one another. Needless to say, this grade-school-play style of acting soon grows tiresome. Oh, and the plot is historically inaccurate, which in itself would have been forgivable had the plot been internally consistent, which, sad to say, it is not.

In short Julie Delphy is a hack.

In short Julie Delphy is a hack.

And that's where anyone with a bran decides to disregard everything you wrote.

"Let's hear you call Boris Karloff a c_ocksucker."

reply

Couldn't agree more with what you wrote. Julie is absolutely perfect! I still haven't seen the movie but this much I know before hand :)

I don't have a "bran", but I do have some oatmeal, and a brain, so I'll disregard your pompous remark and put it down to ignorance and an inability to spell!

That's part of the speech patterns of XVIth century.

I agree. The historical mistakes and inaccuracies are painful to watch. And the plot was quite nonsensical and bland.

reply

Completely wrong. They act in a very stage acting style way which i think is most elegant

I agree with pretty much everything, to say she is a hack maybe a bit strong but there is evidence to this in the movie. The acting is stale, the dialogue does seems to be read and scenes flow into each other like historical text (that is to say it just happens, not like a well written story that would seem more fluid). There seems to be no passion, maybe that was a choice of the director, but if there is no heart then why bother.

I thought the way they spoke gave the film a formal, ritualistic feeling which enhanced its beauty. "Realism" isn't everything.

reply

Exactly.

This is a style. There is more than one way to tell a story.
