Still catching jokes I didn't before

I have seen every episode of 30 Rock countless times. I often have it on when trying to relax before bed or something. It amazes me how I still catch jokes or references I did not notice in previous viewings. They do a pretty good job with keeping up with continuity too and keeping slight facts stated in past episodes as truth in other episodes.

Is there any show on television with more references/jokes jam packed in the dialogue at such rapid speed as 30 Rock?

reply

Honestly, I don't think there is any other show with as many jokes crammed in. It's one of my favorite things about the show, catching new little jokes even after having watched it multiple times :-).

In my experience, only those early Golden Era episodes of The Simpsons were more crammed with jokes than Seasons 2 and 3 of 30 Rock.

reply

yeah the only thing I've seen that is close to/matches the comedic writing of golden era Simpsons is 30 rock.

So to people who have seen 1 and not the other, I strongly recommended watching the other.

I believe Tina Fey said the show had a cartoon-style/reality, much like the Simpsons. And I agree, the writing is very similar to those golden seasons... The writing is sharp & layered with humor

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is very style (also by Tina)

I just saw a joke in the second to last episode that was freakin brilliant. Liz said she was just gonna go to cable where they take their time to really let a joke land. Them it quickly jumps to the next scene.

The joke about Tracy googling himself with Liz's computer. I didn't pay attention to it before and I just got it the last time I watched it lol.

I too have watched EVERY SINGLE episode a zillion times! I also enjoy catching jokes, ect., that I had missed previously. In fact..just caught something today! S2/E14-Sandwich Day..when Jack gets off the 12th floor elevator, a guy walks past front desk..trying to re-attach his moustache..I JUST REALIZED that it's ALEC BALDWIN! Ha Ha!

Yup. And NBCs own Community for that matter.

Just caught that Robyn Lively, the star of Teen Witch, plays Kelsie Liz's bully/victim in Reunion ep. then two episodes later Kenneth raps the ever viral Top That rap from Teen Witch.

just watched the season 5 episode College where Tracy says he is the nerd who everyone realizes is handsome after he takes off his glasses (ok good joke)

then later he says his name is Ogbert the nerd while wearing glasses (good callback)

at the end of the scene Tracy takes his glasses off and Jenna looks at him like it's the first time saying "Ogbert...?"

BOOM! Payoff! Never caught that before
