I'm a heterosexual atheist and, personally, think religion is quite stupid. Wars are fought over religions, young Jewish boys have their penises mutilated for no logical reason and, chances are, there is no God.
However, 'married' couples are given certain protections that non-married couples don't get. So, in that case, same-sex marriage should be legalized. I don't care what religious implications it has, or what a 2000-year-old book that states you shouldn't eat shrimp says.
It doesn't matter whether or not, scientifically speaking, men aren't meant to make love with other men. We weren't born with condoms, so are you saying we weren't "meant" to have safe sex? You weren't born with clothes on, so are you saying we weren't "meant" to wearing clothes? Welcome to free will.
You're just probably some stereotypical, gas-guzzling ignorant American (no offence to all the others) who shops at Walmart. You're just not educated enough yet. But it's okay, I admit I was, to a certain degree, ignorant before. It all takes time. You'll realize how wrong you were eventually.
You should probably check out a movie called "For The Bible Tells Me So." It might open your mind a bit.

"Wars are fought over religions" Wars aren't fought over religion; they're fought to obtain land/resources/power. religion has often been used as the justification and to get the sheeple to support the war. But other "justifcations " have been used also.

However marriage means you are subject to divorce, alimony, community property, divorce settlements, and child support. Thatcould be one reason same sex marriage didn't pass in CA, a state heavily populated by rich gays and lesbians and liberals. Guys like Dave Geffen don't want to divide their fortunes in half.
Do keep in mind that married people are penalized by the tax code and severly under the new healthcare plan.
Your last two paragraphs indicate you are closed minded so i wouldn't accuse others if I were you.
