Biggest Mistake?

So i have seen the film twice now and in the beginning he says something like "I'm 20 years old, by the time i'm 21 i'll be heartbroken." Isn't he clearly drinking in a bar in the beginning?

huh... don't tell me you've never heard anybody going to bars before they were 21?

It's possible, I mean i've been in bars and drank before when I was eighteen. But it seems like something that needed to be addressed. The whole scene was all too casual.

You're assuming 21 has always been the legal drinking age.
Back when he was 20 the drinking age was 19.

..and the voting age use to be 21, and lowered to 18.
