Israel...

Don't think so

reply

Actually, Israel isn't as far fetched as you may believe. They didn't lose any games qualifying for 2006 & didn't play badly in Euro 2008 qualifying.

reply

Hi,

I just want to comment on the predictions for South America. My favorites are:

Brazil (unstoppable)
Argentina (world class)
Paraguay (very solid)
Colombia (very good lately, should qualify if they don't blink)
Uruguay (although a little behind right now, they are very hard to beat for just about anyone)

Ecuador did a very good job in Germany 2006, but has not been playing well lately, maybe because they have been forced to renew most of their team, due to age, and the younger players lack a little experience. In any event, if they can play half as good as they did before, they should be serious contenders... The rest are just not good enough... All of this IMHO...

From Europe I can see a re-birth of Russian football. You know, Mr. Guus Hiddink is like King Midas in soccer: everything he touches converts into gold.

Also, I can see an advance in teams like Croatia, Ukraine, Yugoslavia. In the past, countries like that have given extraordinary performances.

From South and North America I really hope that Mèxico and USA finally advance to semi-finals. CONCACAF has advanced a lot.

Yeah. Look what he has done to South Korea four years ago and four years on, he managed to lead Australia till the second round in Germany.

reply

Mr. Hiddink always has a bad luck in Match for the 3rd place. In France, Netherland was beaten 1-2 by Croatia. In Korea-Japan, South Korea was beaten 2-3 by Turkey...

reply

Mr. Hinddink is ok. But i find tat he looks funny when he "Overeacted"...
Sorta. Tats wat I think...

Memories are tresures nobody can steel.

reply

I doubt it will happen but i hope that Croatia comes back and dominates in 2010!

No one has said Scotland, which is fair enough, we havent qualified for a major tournament since 1998 (we could of beaten the brazilians, we really could). But mind we've beaten France and drawn with italy in the past year, I can still dream. I wont be booking my ticket to South Africa right now though :)

reply

Gus is a GOD in this country (Australia) now and rightly so!!!!!

Since Australia had such a good showing in 2006 World cup nearly every kid here is playing soccer (football) instead of our all our other crappy footy codes.

So watch out for the Aussies in the world cups to come we are only going to get stronger......and Aussies really really hate to lose any kind of sport.

reply

I'm going to wait to see how Scotland fares in the rest of Euro 2008 qualifying before I make a decision on the World Cup. I know I'm hoping they keep doing what they're doing. Northern Ireland too. The Socceroos are definitely on the up-and-up, and Guus has said that he would love to coach them again when he's done with Russia. I expect HUGE surprises out of SA 2010.

reply

arent there 6 qualifiers from Africa for 2010?

reply

Yeah, FIFA wanted the same qualifying format as 2006 so there are now six teams from africa and thirteen from europe. At the time I made this board, the qualifying format had not been announced. I think Cameroon or Angola will be the 6th African qualifier. As for the 14 European teams i put down, it's between Croatia, Denmark and Switzerland for not making it.

reply

I would LOVE to see Scotland make it through to the finals, but it will be very tough for them. They had a great run in euro qualifying, but they're stuck in the only five team group with the netherlands. Every other team outside group nine will have played two more games, and the top eight runners up move on to a playoff....one runner up doesn't advance. It will be virtually impossible for the runner up of group nine to advance to a playoff, and as good as scotland's run for euro qualifying was, I don't think they'll finish ahead of netherlands.

Having said that....I've been to hampden, and have experienced the atmosphere there. Should scotland make it through, the tartan army will be well-represented in south africa, for sure! Good luck to scotland, and all countries for that matter....except for italy. I hope they fall flat on their faces, but its hard to see them NOT winning a group with cyprus, georgia, ireland, bulgaria, and montenegro. Hopefully we'll have a new champion in 2010!
