A little disapointed...

Well i haven't seen this film yet and i don't plan on it. The reason why is because i'm disapointed. Disapointed in Alex Sanchez for giving away his masterpiece to amatuer Thai film makers and making a movie based on the books. First off, i really loved the books and the characters and i'm not happy that the beloved characters of the series will be portrayed by Thai guys. I mean i'm not being racist (mind you that i'm asian myself), but the Rainbow Series was a trilogy that is suppose to reflect what the young Gay "American" teenager goes through in his/her coming out days. And the fact that a book many gay american teens felt was their bible is being made into a movie in Thai is very VERY upsetting to me. My hope is that Alex will have this film remade in America and this time will stay true to the setting and characters and give American Gay youth a movie they can call there own.

I agree with you, to a certain extent. But you have to think about whether Alex Sanchez had proposed this idea to American film companies (which I think he might have done) but was just refused. I mean, a gay teen movie isn't the most marketable thing out there right now. "Normal" people wouldn't really pay for that kind of movie, unless it was full of stereotypes or that kind of garbage. Maybe Thailand saw the potential in the book as a film, and since any movie is better than no movie, they had it made. The list of American gay films is relatively short and almost all of them independently made (except something like Brokeback Mountain), so it's understandble if Sanchez had difficulty finding any sort of company to back his project up. And finally, what are the chances you'll find good, mature young teenage actors willing enough to some of the scenes described in the book? The majority of actors today would rather stay in the closet rather than tarnish their reputation with a gay character role. I mean, off the top of my head, the only teenage actors willing to take part in a gay film are... well, I can't think of any.

I'm sure in a few years when people become more open-minded towards these kinds of issues, an American (or Canadian; I'm Canadian) adapatation of the book will be made.

I totally agree with queenanime99's response.
Also, for xasnrockerx to write like that without having even seen the film is just ridiculous. In fact, the film is not a GREAT FILM, but it has universal themes.
I was interested to see a different perspective on the universal problem of "coming out", a subject that causes many of us such heart-ache. The original book's story is NOT just an American story, it is a universal one. As I was watching the film, I was thinking that it was very brave of a Thai film-maker to make it, in a society, despite a little acceptance of obviously feminine gays, which really is very homophobic. Watch the film with a little tolerance and awareness of what they were trying to do.
