British version versus all others

Anyone know why the British version of DOND is produced very differently to all other versions around the world, who are almost identical in production. Small intimate studio versus large Saturday night quiz show type setting. Boxes versus small chrome cases, the old fashioned black phone versus modern cordless one, no visible banker versus very visible banker in silhouette in studio, and other contestants holding boxes versus the line up of dolly birds all holding a chrome case each. Its just unusual to see one version of an obviously franchised show produced differently. Who Wants to be a Millionaire is franchised all over the place, and they seem to be identical in production.

The British version is daytime TV rather than primetime, and therefore produced on a lower budget - no glitz, glamour or models (but their hotel bills must be enormous!).

I personally think the British version is better - you get to know all the contestants before they take their turn in the hot seat, and you feel much closer to the game because of that. It also plays to Noel's strengths as a host, and is more "comfortable" friendly viewing for daytime TV.

I agree with everything you have said. The intimate setting and absence of all the razzmataz allows the audience to concentrate more on the action in the hot seat. Noel is a very personable character and he is allowed to develop a good relationship with the contestants over the several days they are in attendance. I personally find the dolly birds posing with their cases very distracting and annoying.

A lot of the foreign versions are based on the US version, which started in December 2005 (the UK version started in October 2005). They've mainly changed their styles to look like the US version.

Although I'm biased, I prefer the UK version, though.

yeah the australian version very different.

-daytime but glitzy and even more tacky than the US version.
-host is very cheesy - looks like a used car salesman trying to get people to gamble.
-the deals are usually just mathematical and boring, ie if £1 and £100000 were left, un OZ you get offered around £45000 in UK you could get offered low as £30000.
-and the contestants are borderline retards who gamble too much.usually laughing just after they blow 20k. but then i think this is normal for australians.
