Why is it called Saw?

This one has nothing to do with a saw.

They probably had the script for the full film already written and used this to sell it. It makes sense to keep the title of the full film rather than renaming it and confusing potential investors ("What's this 'Saw', then? We gave you money to make 'Jawbreaker'!")

reply

Mhm yeah it does. Dr. Gordon sawed his foot off. And adam and him were left with two saws at the beginning of the game.

That's the full-length film - this is the forum for the short version which was made before.

Actually, they already had the full script for Saw already written - they were asked to shoot a scene from it to show the film's potential, so they shot the reverse beartrap scene, and just adapted it slightly to make a short film. So saraxstayalive is right (well, if that is indeed the reason why it is named Saw, I imagine it is)

It not just called SAW because of the saws in the real film. It's also ment like: what you though you saw...

If you look in the end of this film you see a eye... he saw you.

There's actually someone on these boards that knows this, amazing.

Yes, it's because of the killer's nickname JIGSAW. You know, he cut a piece off of every victim...

It has nothing to do with his nickname being Jigsaw, in the second movie they ask if he likes the name Jigsaw and he says the press made it up, he only cuts the skin off to show there is something missing from each victim.

What has the fact that he didn't name himself Jigsaw got to do with the name of the movie? You're not making sense.

He didn't name himself anything so that means the movie shouldn't have a name either?

Lmao, yeah. Talk about a non sequitur...

reply

That's not entirely correct.. He says in the second movie that they're missing the "survival instinct" and that's why he cuts a piece of their skin off.(The conversation is where he finally meets Det.Mathews.) (Yes, that's how it's spelled !) Not only that Saw was named for being Seen.. not for Dr.Gordon cutting his foot off. Anything else? Just ask.. I've done my homework. :o)

when Leigh Whannell and James Wan wrote the story they were invited to bring it to California, because the people who saw the script thought it was a good script (it was originally just a project that Leigh and James were working on for fun). Before they went to America they said, "Let's film one scene just to show them whats its gonna be like." The whole movie is called Saw, this was just one scene from it.

reply

Cause the killer found pleasure in what he SAW.

Saw as in "the killer saw everything" hence why you see a little eye at the end of the trailer, and in the full movie they mention how he watches his subjects closely, another hint to him being on the floor that you don't realize till the end, has nothing to do with Gordon.

reply

Because the killer is named JigSAW!

No spoilers today!!
