How much did this short cost?

Just curious?

reply

I heard it cost $7,000 to make.

reply

You heard? Can anyone else corroborate this?

The film itself cost 1.2million and grossed over 100. The other films in the series were similarly successful.

Does anyone know the details for the short?

How much does a 9minute short like this cost to produce?

That bathroom looked animated to me =/ They probably spent the monies on props and stuff.

$7,000 sounds about right for a 10 minute super-16 color film. As a film student, I've worked with 16mm and super-16, and have assisted on 10 minute films which have been anywhere from $1,000 (10 minute black and white reversal film) to $10,000 (30 minute color negative film)

reply

Yeah it sounds plausible. I always wanted to make my own film

Does it come in black??

"Four years ago the Melbourne film school friends were broke, but managed to scrounge $5000 to shoot one disturbing scene from their Saw film script involving a woman in a head-crushing bear trap."

"As Hollywood success stories go, it's a good one. Two struggling young filmmakers from Melbourne spend $7000 to shoot a scene"

From here: http://www.smh.com.au/news/Film/They-came-Saw-conquered/2004/11/23/1100972389306.html?from=storyrhs

So according to the two articles, between AUS$5000-$7000.

If the story be true or not, they had a polished script and a load of talented, semi known actors already verbally committed to work for next to nothing as career bumps. The 7k spent on this short did not only prove that they weren't complete BS artists, it also allowed this picture to move forward with Wan as director and Whannell in a featured role. The 1.2m is considered a legendary Hollywood theft now, not a gamble. Imagine if they took the soft offers for script and story rights? Two more writers sharing an apartment, no insidious, probably no now aborted Saw franchise (with the rerelease failure I think we'll get a new one, it's a freaking Halloween tradition now, carve the pumpkin, spook the place up, go watch the new Saw.....so what if Jigsaw returns as a Cyborg and the traps are focused on Ipads. And finally..... Who else would/could have played Axel in the Matrix Trilogy? Point made. There are no losers in this non fiction Hollywood story, only people who missed out. Donny Wahlberg had his crushed by blocks of ice, now he's touring with his old band and is part owner of a Hamburger chain. No BS, I saw it on TV. lol

Pointing me out on spelling is just one hell of a poor argument..
