I don't understand the 'Mud on the shoes.'

Can anyone help me with this. I don't understand why it was important enough to mention that the guy who went on the Beer run had mud on his shoes.... Was he in the woods scaring them? Was he helping her? I just don't gat that part. Other than that (and I know I am in the minority on this) I rather enjoyed the film. I had no expectations for it, therefore it did not let me down. I really enjoy movies with a lot of snow, and I love horror, so I was not dissapointed. I JUST WANT TO UNDERSTAND THE MUDDY SHOES!!!!!!!!

Hmmm... I only watched the movie once and didn't notice that scene. some other posters have thought perhaps Tiffany was scheming to kill Kevin. hence maybe her drink wasn't spiked. so she could be with the guy who was going on the beer run. maybe that guy was running around the woods trying to scare Kevin. that's one explanation. but than what was the point in her killing the Cop?

I was also confused about the muddy shoes. Personaly, I think it was a storyline that the director may have wanted to explore, but ultimately may have cut that part in the final film editing. Because it was produced on a limited budget, the production team could not iron out all the "quirks", such as this potential story path.

I took at as one of those ambiguities that modern horror directors seem to love so much. Maybe he was in the woods chasing them or maybe he really was just taking out the trash.

My thought is that they really did see someone in the truck with them and he chased them a little bit, remember the other party goers made a comment about him taking so long on the beer run. We do discover that they didn't actually crashed, so my thought is he peeked up and laughed, they started freaking out and left and he attempted to catch up to them but lost them.
