According to the real accounts, the couple died which is unlike what the movie portrayed. Both the male and female had done meth thus no need for speculation about whether the girl was cheating with her boyfriend's friend. Finally, no female cop or any cop was stabbed. I suspect the writers wanted to add something different to make it more interesting. I found the article on ABCNEWS.COM/primetimestories. I cannot cut and paste the link from my phone.

I'd read an article about the actual event on which this is based, and just figured it was changed to add the "twist," and "so what now?" (re Tiffany) factors. Make it more of a horror movie vs a cautionary tale re drugs.

With that said, psych was only my undergrad minor so I'm no expert, but I don't think that any drug can cause you to do something completely foreign to your personality/morality. Or that LSD can cause two people to have virtually identical hallucinations.
