anyone else?

anyone else get the sense that the wilderness camp wasn't the best thing for augusta? she tried to slit her wrists and they didn't even notice or notify her parents. she finally cleaned up and felt better about herself and was ready to go home, but the counselor wouldn't let her go. the counselor obviously didn't know everything because augusta goes home shortly after and it was happily ever after. i got the sense that the camp counselors didn't really know what the kids were going through, nor did they care. i know places like that probably help a lot of families, but it was hard to see based on this movie.

plus, i can imagine kids killing themselves or getting near death and the camp taking no responsibility. their method can't possibly work for everybody. it could make things worse. i know if i was in augusta's situation, i wouldn't respond well to that environment and those people. oh, and it was way too easy to break out of that place. just wondering if anyone else felt this way.

Tomorrow's just your future yesterday!

Such camps are one level above yelling and threatening...they follow through with the punishment, but no, they are not for everyone.

A certain mindset of, "I really want to be a good person," or, "I screwed up and want to change back," has to be on the back burner of a kid's mind, which the tough-love method jars lose. If that thought is not buried somewhere in a kid's subconscience, the program won't have the full effect.

The advantage of the camps, is, that the counselors have a captured audience. In otherwords, as easy as it looks to escape, it takes a lot of energy to run from one of these camps, not like running from home. Options are limited when running from a camp, which enables a quicker recovery; running from home provides a lot of options--"sneaking out" and transportation, to name a couple. A kid can run from home and never be seen again; if they run from camp they are usually caught.

If anything about "Augusta's" running is true, I don't think she ever intended to really run. She stayed too close to home. She was just sneaking out to go party. Big difference.
