What the hell is Russell Crowe doing in this?

An Oscar-winning, $20 million-per film Hollywood star in a low budget, run-of-the-mill, straight to DVD thriller from the director of Hide and Seek and Swimfan? What appealed to him?

I thought he must have lost all of his star power and ended up like Wesley Snipes or something, but he hasn't, he's got Robin Hood coming out next year.

It got 6.0 in imdb, and the trailer makes it look like a very typical low-budget murder mystery. I'm just amazed Russell Crowe is in this.

Its like seeing an ad for the TV Movie Of The Week about some serial killer with Brad Pitt in the lead.

Russell Crowe just did this as a favour to a friend. He and John Polson have been friends for many years. They worked together on a couple of Australian films many years ago, particularly "The Sum of Us" in 1994 in which Crowe played a gay plumber and Polson was his love interest.

This was filmed around the same time as 3:10 to Yuma and American Gangster. Crowe was paid hardly anything. It was just a favour.

The producer, director and Crowe are all Aussies who know each other. It was a small role for Russell, and he prolly used it to leverage a free trip to the New York. Russell, for all his faults, cares about acting and saw a chance to get into an unconventional, difficult and obscure role.

"Russell, for all his faults, cares about acting and saw a chance to get into an unconventional, difficult and obscure role." I second that. Russell has become as versatile as it can get in recent years.

Russell Crowe hardly needs a "free" trip to New York!
