Comparisons to Fight Club

Did anyone find the whole idea of the main character having an alter ego really similar to the movie Fight club?? In both movies the alter egos make more rash decisions to better the main character and in both movies the main character struggles to rid him/herself of the alter ego. Just an odd similarity for two movies meant for entirely different audiences.
