Did John Actually See Emily Before He Met Her Mom?

He says he moved from one place to his current home after seeing Emily or so I thought.

Then he notices the christmas picture on the wall and remarks on how pretty her daughter is, was he talking about emily or another person on the girl he sees in the snow?

I was rooting for John, I am somewhat like him. lol

John told the mother that he knew a Doctor she use to work with. (Bill) He was the one that John killed when John was a patient of his. The mother had sent Bill a Christmas card and that is where he saw Emily and took the picture.
