Okay, here is the one thing that didn't make sense to me.

Why did Muffa fool with the brakes and kill Mrs. Adacher and put Irena's shoe and driver's license in the van to frame Irena. He had not gotten his money back from Irena at that point so doing that did not fit into the story line. You would think that he would want Irena out of jail until she gave him his money. That part to me really didn't make any sense, unless I am missing something.

Other than that I think that La Sconosciuta should win the 2008 Oscar for best film, director, writer, and musical score!!! What an AWESOME film!

to show her that he meant it and would not stop to do something to her and her surroundings if she did not pay him.

There would surely be woman inmates to help him out, by putting the pressure on Irina. And in jail she wouldn't be able to escape.

It's a plot hole.
Tornatore is a good director, but not a good screenwriter.

*SPOILER ALERT*

Irena killed Muffa before she went to jail, that was revealed in one of the flashbacks (she hit him over the head with a shovel while pretending to locate his money and he fell against a rock). He wanted to frame her for revenge because she had left him for dead and stole his money years ago.
