Internet?

Did anybody else wonder why they didn't just Google/amazon/ebay/whatever a copy of the book? Instead of just searching ever book store for miles across the globe.

While the time setting is never really established, I got the impression that it was definitely not present-day. Your comment, however, supports what I keep saying about how the plots of some of the greatest mystery/suspense/adventure books and movies of all time would not work in our computer age. That's rather sad.

reply

Yeah, exactly, unfortunate for the plots, but the writers really need to buck up some times. I mean at least in horror films they have the whole "Oh our cell/mobile phones have no signal/battery" Which is boring but works.

True, but have you read the book by Cornelia Funke? The setting just doesn't seem to be contemporary enough for technology to have entered in. I just thought he was rather stupid not to think of tracking down the author.

BTW, LOVE your Capitalism quote. You might enjoy (if you haven't already heard it): Definition of a Conservative...Someone who worships at the grave of a dead Radical.

didn't you wonder why he traveled the globe for 9 years instead of going to the author which he eventually did!!
