Paul Bettany (and Paul Bettany shirtless) was the best part of this film

This movie was decent. However, it never really got off of the ground. I was expecting something epic by the end and I got nothing more than mediocrity. It did strike my interest in the dustfinger character though, so I may pick up the book...

but my god, Paul Bettany is one of the hottest, most talented actor I've seen in ages. If it wasn't for his performance, this movie would have sucked, plus his shirtless, fire blowing scene was quite, well, memorable to say the least. hahaha.

Inkheart- 6/10...

Hahaha, I agree, the shirtless scene was quite "memorable" ;-) Great body.

"If not now, when?"

forget that he's kinda hot, look at the acting!

as you have all said, he was the ONLY believable character in this whole movie. i luvd the books (always hated meggie - whose with me?) altho i still hav to read inkdeath (tell me its good) but dustfinger was my fav character.

i thought paul captured dustfinger effortlessly; i could really see the inner challenges he faced with himself. some may call it cowardice but i beg to differ; he was looking out for himself and was willing to use anyone and anything. sure its wrong but VERY believable - people do it all the time.

but ya - the bad guys casting. were they serious? capricorn was an awesome bad guy in the book from what i can remember - but he seemed like a joke in the film. i guess that they cant make him too scary as a family film, but still. give bad guys their credit. that way i can feel triumphant when they die - for him it was like "meh. there goes the comedic relief" and also, basta was just horrible. just horrible.

i take it back - it wasnt only paul bettany, but it was the woman who played eleanor. they rocked. i believed and loved their portrayals. bravo!

p.s. fraser fans, dont go hating on me. i like him too - just not in this role.

Inkdeath is *amazing*. Though very long, and at times wordy. But you should be pleased--Meggie has quite a smaller role in this book than in the previous ones.
I have to agree, also, paul bettany and helen mirren were the only actors that I really thought got the characters right . Oh yeah, and Farid was cute too ;)
I hope that they'll make this movie again sometime, and get it *right*.

Yes, quite lovely, but beyond creepy for me- my ex is his DOUBLE. Can't watch the man now, it freaks me the hell out.

Why on earth did you break up with someone who looks like Paul Bettany?!?! :O

No, kidding. It's none of my business why you broke up with him :P

I saw this film last night and I enjoyed it, but honestly Dustfinger fire-juggling shirtless was the HOTTEST THING I'VE SEEN IN YEARS.

HAS ANYONE GOT A PICTURE? *begs*

BTW, does anyone know if he did his own fire-tricks? That's gotta be hard...

"I have no idea whatsoever"

reply

I think the tricks aren't that hard to learn- when I was in high school a bunch of kids learned fire-dancing for the revue. And yes, Dustfinger shirtless did in fact merit a bit of arrhythmia.

I was just watching this with my younger sister last night (I have wanted to see it for ages, she saw it before, i hadn't) and I love those types of films but i was starting to loose interest in the main characters (don' know why, maybe I was tired- re watching it I realised its actually REALLY good!) then Paul Bettany (a.k.a the guy from Wimbledon and the Young Victoria to me) came on and OMG...what more can I say that hasn't been said! I loved him in this- Acting= Great, Appearence = Great, character = Great! Big love for Paul Bettany!

reply

omg.... My pause and re-wind button got a workout during the shirtless fire blowing scene.

Aside from being v e r y sexy, no matter what type of role Paul Bettany is cast in he always delivers a great performance. My favorite actor by far.

Couldn't possibly agree more. This movie was average to be generous, but damn! Paul Bettany never looked so delightfully hot. Long hair really fits him. And yes, the fanservice was glorious, haha. Moreover, his character was the only barely interesting one in the whole story.

Every moment was pointless torture. I would like to meet the person ( I can't imagine there would be more than one) who wonders why there wasn't a sequel.

Totally agree, best scene in the movie by far.

Check him out in A Knight's Tale. He has more than his shirt off in that!
