Jennifer Connelly?

Why did she take this very small part? She was in the film, what 6 seconds and had no dialogue??? They could of found someone else on the street to play this part?

reply

i know right? i just went on here to say pretty much that. weirdest casting ever. who knows, maybe she likes the books or something..........

reply

She is married to Paul Bettany, who played Dustfinger. I'm sure is wasn't much of a stretch for her to play his wife in this film.

reply

Her husband is Paul Bettany. Maybe he thought she'd like the movie and role, despite it being such a small one.

reply

Or maybe her character has a bigger part in the second book and they wanted her for the second movie? I haven't read the books so maybe I'm wrong but thats what I figgured.

reply

It's so weird though because when I was reading the books a few years ago I totally had her in my mind when reading the character....

Interesting!!

Well... better have her in a small role that have other one.
She's great and I bet she'll be in a longer role during the second movie!

reply

Wasn't she the one who plays Dustfinger's wife, and said, "Come home..."?

reply

Yes, that was her.

reply

It was simply the case that Jennifer happened to be visiting her husband while filming was taken place and that she agreed to 'play' Roxanne when she was asked. No mystery :).

I think it's cute how it all worked out and how they play husband and wife

reply

I think so too! :D

reply

I'm sure the role didn't take long. There were really only two shots of her. I'm glad she agreed to the cameo, though it was a bit distracting to have such a recognizable actress there.

I just hate the ending. You don't see her face and, to me, that translates into them either being lazy or not able to get her to finish the plot line and shoot the scene. It was so utterly awkward to me. I've said it before: who doesn't show the reaction shot of two lovers who haven't seen each other in years? It was unnecessary and sloppy.

I think Jennifer explained in an interview that it wasn't actually her at the end of the film, it was a double, which explains the absence of any close-ups at that point in the film.

Because her husband plays Dustfinger, simple as that.

Yeah, Paul Bettany is her husband, so I would assume they wanted him to actually look like he loved Roxanne....but I doubt they'll make the next movie cause this one kinda sucked badly, but I wouldn't mind if Paul just played Dustfinger....lol, he's my fav in the movie and I think Dustfinger is also my fav. character in the book....so tortured and so awesome....

Paul Bettany has a habit of starring with his wife a lot and I think it was easier because she does look like how Roxanne is described, so I guess it was less time-consuming to cast her.

Dustfinger's wife plays a much larger role in the rest of the book series. My guess is that they cast her, planning ahead for the next two movies (if they make them).

After ruining her looks with a bad nose job, breast reduction, possible bulimia and a diet of sour grapes, she should be happy to get any work especially via nepotism. Compare how she looks today with some of her earlier films. She was a beautiful girl. She likes to blame the loss of her breasts on her children but that's an old wive's tale. And having an Oscar these days means nothing. They are sold now, not earned. Oh, you don't believe me ? Look who won last Sunday. I rest my case.

reply

Are you saying that losing your breasts from having children is an old wives tale? Well actually it's not. Maybe it doesn't happen to every single woman but unfortunately it happens a lot.
