In Search of Lovecraft ?

Well, they didn't find him here.

This movie was beyond bad. Just when you think the worst is over , it gets worse.

I find it very funny that he inspired a whole school of horror and mythos and yet not one director or screenwriter can do justice to any of his stories. And yes, I'm a bit partial to him.

it is ironic, but it tends to hold up. however, recent developments and some determined craftsmen in the past have been able to prove the theory wrong, but they are more the exception than the rule. for every good Lovecraft adaptation, there are at least three bad ones it seems. and some good films have a Lovecraftian feel without being actual adaptations.

This movie is badly written, badly acted, badly presented, using improvised sets and a budget that i would swear is less than ten grand, this looks like about the ultimate shoestring budget. for some reason though i have watched it several times, i actually think that the script, with a solid rewrite and a decent filming may have had potential. we do have the 'whittling the crew down' motif, which can work...

i just wanted to like this movie more, but couldn't. i get the feeling that they used apartments of friends for almost every room, (the professor who is killed by unseen spell, it is worth noting that his ghastly corpse won't ruin the cleaning deposit,no mess on floor or wall that isn't part of him, no fluids, no smudges).

but then again, a good budget and production crew doesn't guarantee a good movie anyway, let alone a good adaptation of Lovecraft. like i said, one good adaptation for every three movies if i'm being optimistic.

i can't hate it as much as most people do, even with all its flaws...but i can't give it any kind of a passing grade. it isn't even the 'so bad its funny' kind of bad. i guess though, in this case, i can get a glimpse of what they wanted the movie to be, and wish.
