Worst movie ever?

This film is just terrible and an insult to the legacy of HPL. The person or persons who wrote those favorable user reviews must have been involved with the production. Surely there's no way anyone actually enjoyed this piece of dreck (with the possible exception of the unintentionally hilarious final twenty minutes). The acting, direction, script were all of the lowest conceivable quality and don't get me started on the "special" effects. And where does that naked redhead on the poster come from because she certainly doesn't appear anywhere in the movie. And whose bright idea was it to relocate the haunter of the dark from Rhode Island to San Francisco? OK I understand the movie was made on a low budget. My question is, why was it made at all?

I haven't seen this one, but basically all movies tied to anything Lovecraft is pure garbage. The reason is that the fans can't find anything so they make it up themselves, ending up in crap movie after crap movie. It's kind of sad actually. I imagine a proper budget movie based on something of his could be pretty cool.

No. No, it's not. For the cost of renting a camera and film, I can make a better movie, as in one that does not spit on a rich legacy with halting, awful acting and home-video quality camera work. Look at Clerks for how this can be done. Kevin Smith had a pathetic budget, and knew squat about cinematography, so he got some friends who could act better than cardboard cut-outs, used alot of still camera shots, and told a story worth watching.

An astounding production that any parent should beam with pride if their twelve-year-old came home with this from junior high school as a product of their extra-credit movie project.
Any student of film will be rendered speechless by this flick. Unless they talk in their sleep.

What I had in mind was boxing the compass.

No , the worst movie ever is the movie 'Closets'

This one is in my worst 10 though. As a fan of HPL, I have seen most of the movies made from his works and there are many out there that are worth looking at. This is not one of them.

here are some better ones:

It's bad, but I've seen worse. Manos: The Hands Of Fate, Troll 2 and every movie Ed Wood ever made come to mind, but if you want to see the real worst movie ever made, try to find a copy of Red Spirit Lake. It's so bad it makes Plan 9 From Outer Space look like Citizen Kane.
