Is it me or do New Zealand films suck.

I hate this movie, Lord of the Rings sucked to as did whalerider. New Zealander rave about these movies and other things but they are boring as f^%$!

and a lot of people like this film

reply

Yup its you. You definitely suck.

I wish my hair was Emo so that it would cut itself

reply

Hahaha I second that!
It's most likely you.

You just listed 3 flms so now ALL kiwi films suck?
I could list pages and pages of really bad films from the U.S.
does that mean ALL american films suck?
Actually I think so

reply

Appearantly you haven't seen Once Were Warriors, one of the best movies about poverty I have ever seen. I didn't care too much for LOTR, but you must admit that it is a quality made movie (cinematography, realistically conveyed moral lessons). Try not basing your opinions of an entire country's cinema on 2 movies and a billion-dollar trilogy

reply

yeah id say you suck most likely, i could name 100 *beep* American movies but i wouldn't say American cinema sucks, o wait yes i would, because it does now =/

BE ORIGINAL HOLLYWOOD I DONT WANT TO WAKE UP TO HE-MAN AND GOLDEN GIRLS REMAKES!!

reply

LotR isn't a New Zealand movie, just because it was made here with a kiwi director/specialfx. It was still made by an american company.

reply

As the general consensus shows... yes... the maker of this topic sucks.... dont post threads on movies you dont like.. what are you... stupid?

reply

You know what, I'll disagree with you on this. It is true that Kiwi films resemble Aussie films(the nucleus of crap films) too much, making you almost right in your assumptions. However, where you are mistaken is in your misguided and worthless opinion of LOTR. that sir, ousts you as a moron of boundless proportions.

In terms of Eagle v Shark too, I thought it was going to be as rotten as The Rage in Placid, but it actually turned out to have some hilariously funny moments (the fight with the wheelchair-bound ex-bully anyone?). Nevertheless Once Were Warriors, which was A-WFUL, does nothing to disprove your theory.

If you want to check out some truly miserable films, check out Aussie cinema- and before anyone posts insulting and patriotic replies; yes you do occasionally turn out some great films 2006/2007 was maybe a vintage year for you, but the proportion ratio of crap to decent releases is exceedingly on the side of the crap.

I think there may still be some hope for Kiwi films...we'll see

Hey Parton what are you 15? Anyone that doesn't like "Whale Rider" doesn't know what a good movie is. There is a reason Keisha Castle-Hughes was nominated for an Oscar! The part where she is on stage... if you don't get choked up from her performance, you are a robot or absolutely heartless. I feel sorry for those that can't enjoy those flicks that don't have huge special effects. I really wanted to like this film, but I just didn't get most of it The first 30 minutes or so were weak and boring in parts, but the last hour I liked. Of course when I first saw Napoleon Dynamite, I didn't laugh too much either. Who knows maybe someday I will love it, but I don't think I will. I'm all for other countries films, because god knows Hollywood doesn't make very much original stuff anymore.

reply

i wasn't a huge fan of whale rider or lord of the rings but they're a hell of a lot better than 99% of the bullcrap that comes out of hollywood.

i think heavenly creatures is probably my favourite new zealand film. but eagle vs. shark, the piano and in my father's den are also great.

I also think LOTR and Whale Rider sucked, but you gotta see "World's Fastest Indian", it's fantastic. "Heavenly Creatures" is great too, Peter Jackson used to make decent movies. Even "Black Sheep" was pretty funny. "Goodbye Pork Pie" too.

reply

Heavenly Creatures is the best NZ film I've seen thus far.

Redheads not warheads

reply

It's just you I think.

reply

this movie was awesome. Also anyone who thinks Once Were Warriors sucked is severely lacking in taste. Also Dead Alive, Meet the Feebles, and Black Sheep? Come on people. Whalerider is the weak link if there is one and its not even that weak. Its just not a 10, which all these othere "kiwi" movies are.

reply

Yea, it's definitely you, buddy. Kiwi films generally have a *beep* load more substance. To be honest Eagle vs Shark has a lotmore to it than Napoleon Dynamite. The movie actually deals with issues and interestingly conflicted characters, whereas Napoleon Dynamite is just quirky.

Also, to write Whale Rider off as simply "boring" without appreciating or even recognizing a certain amount of cultural commentary is just plain ignorant, furthermore at least New Zealand films have social relevance without being too preachy. Audience members like you are the reason the big film companies constantly underestimate everyone else's intelligence and release such B grade films.

[edit] Man I sound pretentious... Sorry team.
