Question (SPOILERS)

Did I understand correctly at the end that she dumped her husband and took up with the doctor? The doctor goes running up to her, calls her name and gives her an intimate hug as the husband stands back with a stunned look on his face. Then, the two of them walked right past the husband as if he wasn't even there, or worse, had no business being there. I don't know why the movie makers would make that choice after he had been through all manner of hell trying to help her through her problem. Not that I'll lose any sleep over it, but it was kind of jarring and seemed unnecessary.
