Perhaps worst sci-fi CGI ever

While the special effects in Sci-fi movies can never be great due to the 2 million dollar budgets, the gryphon CGI is just awful.

Word. That was pathetic.

I thought they could have shown the Gryphon rip its talons into the fat bloated pig sorcerer played well be veteran actor Larry Drake. If he was torn to shreds (by some curse) by the Gryphon at the end of the movie it would have been more dramatic than the sorcerer simply turning into ooze.
Overall it was fun to watch.
The movie had a predictable low budget so please don't expect high level CGI. If that is what you want go spend $10.00 and see Eragon instead.

The gryphons in World of Warcraft look better then that POS.

Looked like a young child's coloring project. And they went out of the lines a few time.

Life is never fair, and perhaps it is a good thing for most of us that it is not.

I call it CGI attemtping to simulate stop-motion and failing in very way possible.

Low budget is never an excuse for bad FX -- you have to be smart enough to keep what you are trying to do within the limits of your budget. If you can't do a good gryphon, you need to do a couple good shots of a gryphon and use things to imply him for the rest. People have good imaginations, they can fill in an awful lot of missing detail if you know your craft (i.e., filmmaking -- cinematography, direction, and production). A good screech, a well-done shadow, and people ducking will often make people THINK they saw the Gryphon at a fraction of the expense.

I point you to the *exceedingly* low-budget "Slave Girls From Beyond Infinity" -- which, despite the lurid title, is actually a fairly good film (a: yes, it does have nudity, b: the "slave girls" aren't very -- much more Red-Sonja type 'slaves' than anything submissive and helpless, and the entire movies is them after they've escaped "slavery"). It looks like it was shot on 10 times the budget (--Literally--. Watch it and then go look up how much it cost!), because the cinematorgaphy, direction and production was very, very well done. The basic plot is a classic retread, but done quite well, and the writing is adequate to the film. No, it's no "Star Wars", but it looks like a lot more than the amount spent, I'll guarantee.

That's an excellant post Corum JI. I am in total agreement with your comments. I haven't seen Gryphon yet, and I doubt I will bother.. I can usually tell just from the trailer if something is going to be good or not... The Golden Compass doesn't look to be very good despite a lot of money clearly being spent on it. This Gryphon thing is worse because not only is it cheap looking and amateurish by today's standards but it also looks badly written and lame. Yes I can tell just from the trailer, don't ask how, it's a skill lol.
I also haven't seen Slave girls from Beyond Infinity but I will take your word that it's good. I am a big fan of cheaply made stuff that's well written and skillfully directed. It makes such a difference and it's a real shame we don't see more of it.
My experience of working in the world of film and television is that it's often not what you know but who you know that counts and I'd say this is probably just another example of that.
