None of them looked the part

none of them looked white or black with the makeup on. When the white guy had the makeup on he looked indian (the original aryans). When the black family had there makeup on they looked abnormal, fake like they were whereing makeup, as did the white mother and daughter. There are more things than skintone that makes someone look like they are from one particular race or another. Such as shape of the noise, the shape of the face, shape around the eyes etc. I think if i had seen any of these people in their makeup I would have thought something was wrong with them (except the white dad who as i have said looked Indian to me). It just didn't look real at all.

i probably wouldn't go up to any person randomly who i didn't know and ask about there ethnicity just because i wsnt sure. If i saw them for an instant passing by i'd probably never see them again and it would fade out of my mind, but if i was working or going to school with lets say a member of one of the families, and got to know them well enough i would ask them, but not only because of that i mean usually when your talking with people you know you end up talking about their culture and ethnicity just like you would talk about your own.

I didn't think the black family looked right in their white makeup either. I probably would have been able to tell that the mother was really black. Even with her makeup, she didn't look like any white woman I have ever seen. The son too, I thought he looked really weird.

Yeah I have to admit they all looked a little funny but it was still a really good show I thought

The only one who looked vaguely like the opposite race in make-up, was the girl. But even then they should have given her more of a "black" nose.

I too thought that Bruno, the white father, looked very much like an Indian; Carmen and Rose were alright. I wouldn't say they looked totally like black people... Perhaps mixed... Carmen was a little too small boned to be truly convincingly black.

As for Nicholas, hahaha I thought he was a cute black guy and a hot white guy... The look about him was convincing. If I saw his eyes, though, then I'd probably think twice. It was a good idea to have them hidden behind sunnies...

I just saw my first episode of Black. White. where Nicholas bought an expensive $150 watch just because he had the money. And there really wasn't any interaction from the black family apart from telling their son off for the watch.

In regards to the topic starter's comment, yes they really didn't look the part when viewed closely. Even Carmen said that she thinks that if she kept spending more time with Deanna (or whatever that woman's name was), she'd see through her and think that something was wrong. But as one other poster had alreay mentioned, they see you from far away and immediately judge you for the skin that you have.

The black people in the park saw Bruno and they were convinced.

As for the show asking for ratings... Sure, every other show needs ratings or else they'd be put off air. But I like the show's premise and progress... So I'm going to keep watching.

Overall, I thought the makeup was pretty convincing. The white family looked a lot like many real African-Americans I have met in my life-- in fact, Carmen resembles my African-American kindergarten teacher! Nick, the black family's son, looked convincingly white to me as well. However, the same cannot be said for the parents; to me, they looked like a lot of Latinos I've seen in my neighborhood. Their makeup was effective enough that they no longer looked like most African-Americans I've seen, but they didn't quite look "white" either. Also, did anyone notice that by some odd coincidence, the white father and the black father resembled one another somewhat, with or without makeup?

reply

Yea the white father and black father definately resembed eachother without make-up. Especially as Bruno is quite dark for a caucasian and the black guy was obviously light skinned so their complexions were almost the same! I thought Rose was the only one who pulled the make-up off.
As for all the rest, their features did not suit their skin. Especially the black mother had very strong black features which looked laughable against her blonde hair.

Lol - the White suburban dad reminded me of James Whitmore in BLACK LIKE ME!

I agree that most of them didn't look the part, but I thought Rose looked completely believable. She looked very East African, like an Ethiopian or Somali in her features. I actually thought she looked more attractive under her black makeup than she did as herself. I really liked her overall, and she was the only reason why I watched it. She seemed to have a lot more common sense and maturity than any of the "adults".

The rest of them were awful though. Renee didn't look remotely white. She looked more like an African American albino than anything else. Bruno was so incredibly ignorant and unlikable that he bordered on parody. He was like every stereotype of an ignorant bigoted middle class white American male rolled into one, and he just got worse and worse, culminating in the "mid life rap" thing. Seriously, that was so bad that I really didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I ended up laughing hysterically, but it was also extremely sad.

except the white dad

He is not a "dad", nor a husband, and likely not even a boyfriend.
