One of the worst films I've ever seen.

I gave 1 to this film.
I could've forgiven it and leave without rating since it's pretty much the usual hollywood action movie targeted to teens and young adults if only it wasn't for one simple reason: the comic book is a damn masterpiece, and this film has pretty much nothing to do with it. It is tame, boring, low level nothing daring and unable to stay true to the work which it is ispired.
The comic was the anti-comic, the anti-marvel, the reign of the antiheroes, a spiritual (and physical) awakening of one of the weak, pathetic "men raised by women", the death of social hypocrisy, a "Fight Club" like awakening to the world... followed by a badass secret society of supervillains secretly controlling the world with sci-fi and magic, ending in a self aknowledge of escapism for weak nerds.

They turned "the only difference between a dream and a nightmare is how big your balls are" into a generic cash grabbing bad action movie with people twisting their wrists (so awkward) and magically bending bullets. There is no excuse for this.

Except there are some people, myself included, who never read the comic and therefore have no frame of reference beyond the story told in the movie itself.

And that story does have value - themes of identity, truth and others are woven (pun intended) with some action into a story that I appreciated.

Agreed. I could care less about how it connects to the comic. It's not a comic we're watching, it's a singular entity of a movie that we're judging. If you start bringing outside things into it EVERY movie can be awful...

I also agree. I don't care about any comics either.

The comic could be the equivalent of "Watchmen". But this movie was about as entertaining as Eraserhead.
Yes...it's that bad.

Some people like it. Fine. My opinion isn't going to change their view.

And that is okay. I don't like some movies either. And some of them are even high rated movies. But the difference is that I just don't waste my time posting on their boards. I don't have time for things I don't like.

I haven't seen "Eraserhead" so I have no opinion of it, but it actually has a decent rating so somebody likes it.

so many movies, so little time

I wonder how they game is then. Apparently, the story picks up 5 hours from where the movie left off and at the same, it also puts a bit of focus on his dad in the past. I wonder if it has more to do with the movie or the comic.

reply

Well, good thing the movie didn't turn out the MRA fantasy you describe the comic book as

If I don't reply, you're probably on my ignore list for something I forgot already

I've never read the comic (nor intend to now!) but I seriously consider Wanted one of the top five worst movies I've ever seen. I've seen a LOT of "bad" movies, but even most of those had some redeeming element even if just unintentional comedy.

Wanted was just vile, dull, stupid, cliche, insulting and terribly written.

However, the description the OP gives for the comic somehow actually sounds MUCH WORSE than the movie, which I didn't think could be possible, so I guess there is something to be thankful for after all!
