laughed a lot and cried a lot

It was witty, beautifully produced, great acting, clever jokes and a bit of pathos. But it was very British, or English.

The reason it's getting flack is probably because the humour doesn't travel so well. I saw it in London and people laughed a lot.

The reason the mention of Us winning the World Cup in '66 brings about so much spleen venting is becaue it still p****s the Scots off!

Great soundtrack. Lots of in jokes

It doesn't p**s anyone off. It just makes the English, London-centric media look like a crowd of J Arthur Rankers every time they mention it. Personally, I find that pathetically amusing rather than spleen-venting.

If you want to enjoy reminiscing about a flawed victory in a competition which is only of marginal historic interest to most people then fine. Let's keep the thing in perspective though.

I couldn't agree more.
It made me laugh, and it made me cry.
I think it has everything that a movie needs.

I can honestly say I don't like many British films, but this one I certainly did like.

only the comedies can ever make you cry

I was almost in tears I was laughing so hard during the father's speech at his relative's wedding. The list of all the deceased and injured seemed endless! AHA! This was an adorable movie and I couldn't help but think of my own relationship with my father during that final sequence.
