Is this about or does it have anything to do with

German Shepherds? Or does the title just carry the Rin Tin Tin name?

It is based on the true story of how Lee Duncan found Rin Tin Tin while stationed at a base in France during World War I.

Remember the Rin Tin Tin Cartoons they had with the boy and the small white dog, well this is the real story of the story told in the cartoons

Ummm... no. The "young man" with the little white dog (which, incidentally, was named Snowy) was just Tintin... see:

Rin Tin Tin was a dog:

The dogs used in the filming of this movie were from a kennel in Bulgaria and NOT authentic Rin Tin Tin line dogs. The storyline is not accurate to the actual history of Rin Tin Tin.

It is a dog/animal/family movie not a documentary. Who cares if it was totally accurate? It is a great family movie and a wonderful dog movie. Those that gave it crappy ratings apparently aren't fond of animal movies.

I totally agree I didn't see anything wrong with this movie. This foreign version for all we know (since we weren't actually there) could very well be the accurate version of how Lee Duncan found the dog. One fact is that the original Rin Tin Tin after his death in 1932 was removed from his grave here in the U.S. and returned to France to be buried, which seems kinda strange since Rin Tin Tin was an American icon, as some people have stated.

I think the term "Loosely Based" applies here instead of the words "True Story"

The part about the soldier finding the dog is true BUT from there it does not resemble the Rin-Tin-Tin story.

Rinty was a young pup when he was found. Mr.Duncan brought him and his sister back to the USA but Rinty's sister contracted distemper on the long boat ride home and died shortly after her arrival in the USA.

I understand that in the movie Rinty is a grown dog when found. He also performs tricks and does various stunts for the soldiers and is an overnight success when he gets to the USA.

I'll probably watch this film sometime and if I do I'll keep in mind it's a kids show. I'll also try to forget that sometimes Hollywood can take a good true story, foul it up beyond all recognition, and have many people believe it is the true version.
