One episode that makes me question this show's legitimacy

In one episode, they present the contestant with thousands of cans which totaled 20,000 dollars which was her bank offer. They'd quite obviously would have had to arrange that before the show. How would they know how many cans they would need before she started to pick the cases?

You need to provide more information than that. What kinds of "cans" are they? Did they show them all on screen?

Probable answers:

1) They research people before they come on the show and have contingencies in place for "special prizes." Most of the time they're designed to either try and convince a person to take the deal, or egg them on by "insulting" them.

2) They have "stock" "special prizes" ready to pull out for any number of people.

3) The cans they showed were not really the ones that totaled 20,000 dollars, even if they claimed it did.

#3 is the most likely.

"You've shown your quality sir. The very highest."

If this is a situation where the contestant mentioned collecting cans or scrap metal for spare cash then this is entirely plausible.

The show seemed to like getting contestants that had low incomes and liked to stretch out the episode by trying to get us personally involved with the contestants. Since contestants are likely to have encounters with the bankers it makes complete sense that they'd have personalized temptations. Maybe in this situation the contestant cashed in scrap metal for extra cash? It would be no big deal for the show to have tons of cans around for all sorts of amounts.

Civility is just a warm and fuzzy name for censorship.
