"Nausicaä - Valley of the wind"
"Mononoke hime" aka "Princess mononoke" (Not apocalyptic but resembles this on a lot)
"Wonderful days" a korean anime
"Blue submarine no.6"
Among others...Lots of anime brings up the concept of an apocalyptic world.. but not so hard to undersatnd when most of it comes from a place that has been nuked twice!

I agree with alienbitch for his/her list of movies of same genre..., my personal favorite in this list is "Wonderful Days" (a GREAT korean anime)...

Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Not exactly like this one, and it's not a movie (though it has movies out), but it is amazing.
This reminded me of EYES on Mars a lot, which is a movie that I love to death and wish I had a better copy than my VHS, it is also impossible to find save maybe Amazon Marketplace.
shareGotta check out Green Legend Ran. A lot of the same themes: humans turning into plants, special girl being the "key", post-apocalyptic, dessert earth..
