Only the first 40 minutes was good
The first 40 minutes of the movie was enjoyed and seem really well animated then the movie takes a nose dive and turns into the worst thing ever. its crap, it sucks, its a big pile of *beep* after 40 minutes.

I was expecting The Forest to be presented as somehow beneficial to humankind (or at least worthy of their respect), but aside from "oh by the way if you become one with our creepy genetically-engineered hivemind we can make new humans from giant fruit" that never happened.
I was expecting Agito to mature and try to solve the conflicts in front of him with something other than brute strength, but that never happened (particularly painful was the stand-off between him and the bad guy, which seemed like a sure fit for a bit of plaintive dialogue trying to convince him to not blow up the world, but of course Agito just jumps in fists-first).
I was expecting Tula's dad to give her one final message at some point telling her not to activate the giant volcano battleship – like valuing the sanctity of all life or whatever – if only to give her an actual motive other than "all of a sudden I'm in love with this kid who won't stop shouting my name and want nothing more than to live in a bombed out concrete labyrinth where I can carry buckets of water a mile uphill both ways all day."
I was expecting some sort of conflict and/or meaningful sacrifice during the final battle with the General beyond the anachronistic "I'll just turn us both into a big tree." Even after that, of course the main character's plot armor pulls him through, and the events of the entire movie had virtually no impact on anyone whatsoever other than shouldering the citizens of the city with a week's worth of shoveling ash into a landfill.
But none of that happened.
What a steaming pile.
