Uncle Remus?

Oh boy oh boy, wonder if they're gonna put slaves in this one too. Maybe while they are raping a classic, they can make Uncle Remus white and have Brer Rabit do a couple of rap songs.

reply

must everyone on IMDB overuse the term "rape" when describing their feelings on a movie they haven't even seen and how it relates to what they feel is a "classic." At this point it's lost all meaning.

I just saw a preview for this and i think it looks pretty cool. I don't think Uncle Remus is in it.

reply

Overused, but effective. The first poster is right. The original was wonderful. People are too uptight. A Remus story with no Remus? An all black cast? It seems like an apology movie to me. But on the good side, it may very well open up enough awareness and feedback about the original that it could get a release. Although I doubt it. It's ridiculous.

reply

I disagree. You, the original poster and everyone else that bashes a movie without seeing it are just being prejudice. And ANY term loses its effectivness when it is overused.

I may or may not see this movie (I probably will because the animation looks pretty good), and if Disney ever releases "Song of the South" I'll probably buy that too. But this film cannot be an "apology" movie as it's from a different studio and made decades after the first, i doubt any of the original creators are involved.

reply

I personally am very prejudice, yes. I prefer racist. I belong to a group that meets on the weekends. We have uniforms.

reply

Oh please. How juvenile (no pun intended). I don't mean against races. I mean in the sense that you are pre-judging films.

reply

who knows, brandon. might be good. i didn't realize a different studio was doing it. i'll give it a chance of course, but...nick cannon...jesus christ

reply

First of all of course these people are prejudging films. they're a bunch of nerds with too much time on they're hands, so the judge movies, kinda like i use my time to judge and mock them. Second of all Nick Cannon is Hilarious.

reply

guessing you meant "so THEY judge movies". and as for the rest of what you said...i'm just speechless

reply

I'm going to be a bigger man here and let this one go because it would be just too easy. But, gir42, so you know in the future... they're is a contraction, used to say "they are." I believe what you want to say is "they're a bunch of nerds with too much time on THEIR hands."

I'm still a little surprised I have to point this out, but. . .
this is not a remake of "Song of the South".

SotS was inspired by the Uncle Remus stories of Joel Chandler Harris
and Walt Disney's insatiable desire to infantilize and bastardize
every authentic work of art he came across (cf. Mary Poppins).

This movie is based on the original stories - and believe me, it's
less of a travesty than SotS was.

For the record, before seeing the movie (last week) I had no idea who
Nick Cannon was, and really could not care less that they cast him to
voice Rabbit. If you're going to slag the movie sight unseen and sound
unheard because you've got a hate-on for the guy, well, p a t h e t i c.

After using "Zipidy do da" as their theme song for nearly 30 years Disney tried Unsuccessfully to bury Song Of The South. I saw a re release in theaters back in the early 80's (4-6 yrs old) However I remember that film to this day. While politically incorrect out the ass. The movie centered on Briar Rabbit. That is what most of the people I've spoken to about the film remember. Even relatives and friends of mine who are black remember the film with fondness about the story, and less about the time in which it was set.

It's time to look past the horrors of America's past and accept things for what they are. I've only seen the preview for this movie as I found it researching another show. But I'm glad to see they revived the heart of the original movie and owned up to the EXISTENCE of the story.. Even if their trailer stated " First time this story has been brought to life ". Their R&D department would have known this would bring out the old film in forums, and chat groups all over the web.

Baby steps for Disney. But steps in the right direction none the less.
