American Time Capsule

I just saw Chuch Braverman's American Time Capsule http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2XJA7IAGnY and it reminded me very much of Marco Brambilla's Synch (especially at the dawn of the industrial revolution).

Anyone know if it was any inspiration or just a coincidence that they're similar styles? Obviously this is not an uncommon technique, but American Time Capsule is the earliest piece I've seen presented this way.
