'Official Selection'

Does anyone know what this actually means?

The only selling point that this movie has is its official selectiveness with Sundance. Of course Sundance did not nominate this movie for anything (I'm glad). Redford is much too brilliant a filmmaker to let something like this in contention. Probably the only reason it was officially selected had to due with its geographical closeness to Park City, Utah.

Does “Official Selection” mean said movie was selected to be shown within the festival itself but not necessarily for the juries, because said movie is not nominated for any awards.

I think people - producers and directors mainly - throw around this "Official Selection" business around way too much. Yes, I'll admit - Sundance is a great film festival, probably the first great and reputable American film festival…

But oftentimes while seeing trailers, you’ll notice film festivals you’ve never heard of. There are so many mediocre film festivals, where a producer will flash its relation to, but just for a nanosecond during its trailer...What? It was the "Official Selection" in the "Slovenia International Film Festival"? It must be good!

Sadly, this movie was pretty horrible. I like renting these obscure movies sometimes; usually they aren't any good (case in point) but they are almost always entertaining...

And the guy at the end? The true Dr. Franklin Vick? Who plays him? He is not listed.
