How there could be 11 out of 11 excellent 9 or 10 star reviews of this crap is amazing. I mean I do respect independent cinema but this was just bad. Nothing new, no message, no point, horrible pacing, etc...

It may not be the Best film but every quality that makes a film unique and truly harness that originality is in this film. You have to look past the shell and think about the events that took place to really feel this film. Like "World's Greatest Dad" it has a style that is based on building up the characters then throwing a nightmare at them, and Then plays it off with a series of philosophical insights. This film went on a roller coaster of emotions and still held it's plot together.

IMDB is filled with a bunch of nutcase wanna be film critics that debate endlessly over stupid concepts, every once and awhile you see someone say something brilliant. I don't mean "what you wanted to hear" but something unique that either stretches your perspective or helps you understand what you feel. But anyways lets get back to reality, nobody gives a #@$% on the internet and like everything else good in life they &$%# all over it because it's "hilarious" or touches political boundaries. Then after dealing with all the BS from everybody somebody goes out of their way to express the frustration they have of the world and helps people cope with all the crap that infects their soul. That is this movie. THIS MOVIE is therapy for those who are sick and tired of broken wings.

Positive review from Variety (predicting "major cult status"), positive review from the New York Times, rave reviews from the Boston Independent Film Festival (LonelyReviewer.com) and the Newport Beach Film Festival (quietearth.us), very positive reviews from SXSW (Cinematical) and the NY Gen Arts Festival (comingsoon.net). I'm sure all of those people worked on the film, too.

Oh, and three reviewers who hated it the way you did.

Film Threat hated it, but the reviewer admitted that she thought the film rang false to her because she couldn't imagine owning a suite of video equipment, since they didn't have that when she grew up in the 60's. In other words, she admitted she lacked the imagination to realize the film was true (I'm the same age, and I was blown away at how the movie captured the reality that my 20-year-old godson has grown up in). I see a lot of movies, but I've only seen 2 other movies she's reviewed (out of 12): she gave The Hurt Locker 2.5 stars out of 5, and the Muppets 3 (I'd give them both 4.5). She's an amateur.

A prolific reviewer named David Nusair hated it at Reel Film Reviews, but he may have the worst taste of any active film critic. He is the infamous only critic in the world (literally) who gave a negative review to A Separation, which may be the best dramatic film of all time. In contrast, all the Twilight movies got 3.5/4. He gave 0/4 to Night Watch, 0.5/4 to Dogtooth and Meek's Cutoff, 1/4 to Cloud Atlas (best film of 2012), A Dangerous Method, Waking Life, and the original Solaris (a masterpiece) though he loved the remake (which was awful), 1.5/4 to The Future, Exit Through the Gift Shop (I'm wasting a lot of time here but I can't stop; it's like looking at a car crash), Pi, Volver, and Blue Velvet, 2/4 to Amour, The Avengers, Spirited Away, The Big Lebowski, Moneyball, This is Spinal Tap, Blade Runner, My Winnipeg, Lars and the Real Girl, The Lives of Others, Duck Soup, Repo Man, Primer, Adaptation, and Secretary. The vast majority of these films I'd describe as challenging and especially recommended only for smart people. A negative review from him for a film that otherwise had mostly positive ones should count as positive.

That leaves the LA Times as the only negative review with an ounce of credibility.

It's true that 5 of the 12 reviews here are by folks who have reviewed nothing else.

On the other hand, six of the reviews are by ultra-prolific reviewers. 10, 10, 9, 8, 6, and 5 stars. If I find time to add a review, that's another 8 (which I define as excellent, a film I would recommend going out of your way and/or making time to see). And there's another 10 from someone with one page of reviews. That's an average 8.25 from real people.
