Unofficial fansite for King and the Clown

The Korean movie King and the Clown(Wang-ui namja) , recently selected as Korea's entry for consideration in the Foreign Language Film category for the 79th Academy Awards®, 2007 (i.e., the Oscars®) is adapted from the highly acclaimed Korean play of 2000 titled Yi (You). The play explores the character of Yeonsan-gun, a Joseon dynasty king who falls in love with a court clown who mocks him. The play is based on a small passage from the historical Annals of the Joseon Dynasty that briefly mentions the king's favorite clown. Instead of focusing solely on the love between the clown and the king, the movie craftily blends in many other subtexts (life, love, politics, fate, etc) making it a much subtler and deeper, yet highly entertaining, film.

It was the highest grossing Korean film in history (with US$85,000,000 in domestic receipts from 12.3 million viewers), surpassing total admissions of all-time blockbusters Silmido and The Brotherhood of War (Taegukgi), until the horror film The Host (Gwoemul) surpassed it in September 2006. Despite its gross, it had a relatively modest production cost of only approximately US$4.5 million dollars.

The unofficial King and the Clown fansite is a volunteer effort encompassing documents contributed and maintained by fans and addicts, as well as original material not found elsewhere. We are looking for people interested in discussing different aspects of the movie with others, as well as those interested in translating articles from Korean, Chinese, and Japanese websites to share. We've implemented an RSS feed to distribute news and information about the movie, with more functionality to come. And we're working on some surprises for the future.

We invite you to visit and contribute!

Hi, nslan and others

I'm very impressed and appreciative that you took on such project. I really enjoyed reading your collection of articles at your site.

As another fan of this movie, I'd love to contribute. Do you need a Korean-to-English translator? I'm sure there are plenty other able Koreans to do the job but if you need help with an article or two, let me know.
