Korean Movies

I really enjoyed this movie, and am fairly new to Korean cinema, what Korean movies can people reccomend?

Last Movie seen: A Sound of Thunder 6/10.

I have an eternal hope.

Well, personally I wasn't too excited about this movie, but here's a small list of Korean must-sees (trust me, these are the ones you MUST SEE!):

- Brotherhood of War
- Joint Security Area
- My Sassy Girl
- Old Boy
- Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance

Here is a list of Korean movies which aren't excactly musts, but still very good and memorable:

- Attack the Gas Station
- Memories of Murder
- My Wife is a Gangster
- Sex is Zero

These were all titles that just flew out of my mouth when asked. I Have seen a LOT of Korean movies, and I have very rarely been overly dissapointed. If Asian - and especially Korean - movies becomes a hobby of yours, you'll have so much fun.

Hope ya'll like the list. May edit it later as more titles pop up.

I would skip Brotherhood of War and replace it with Lady Vengeance. In fact, anything by Chan Wook Park is pretty much aces.

Also, A Tale of Two Sisters, Peppermint Candy, and The Host are all quite good.

I recommend:
- Untold Scandal
- Forbidden Quest
- Musa
- Sword in the Moon
- Fighter in the Wind
- Tae Guk Gi

reply

Oh yes! Untold Scandal is excellent. I just don't get the love for Tae Guk Gi/Brotherhood of War. It's a terrible, terrible movie. Just way over the top and an hour too long.

I liked King and the Clown quite a bit, too.

I would suggest:

- 3-Iron
- Forbidden Quest
- The Host
- Sopyonje
- Chunhyang (2000)
- The Wedding Day
- Sympathy for Lady Vengeance

This is a "first-cut" list; I just started watching seriously last June or so, and there are many highly recommended things I haven't seen yet.

There's quite a bit that's been going on with South Korean film in the past several years. You have a lot to look forward to.

I also recommend 3 -Iron and another really good romance movie, A Moment to Remember. My Little Bride is a really light-hearted romance/comedy that is also really good.

You have to watch :-

Kick the Moon

hasn't been mentione but excellent acting and great entertainment. it is a ... life drama i think. part love story part story about life and hopes.

Also do not forget othe rgreat japanese movies whose quality in many instances surpasses korean movies :-

Unmei Janai Hito (A Stranger of Mine) is actually better then many of the korean movies listed in this thread. this is a romantic comedy of epic proportions.

Also look for :-

Supêsutoraberâzu (Space Travellers) - also better than many of the korean movies listed here. movie is not about travelling in space.. its about how amazing life is and how to live life to the full in every moment.

Plenty for people to get their teeth in too here!

As well as the above I'd like to add a couple more...

Shiri - North V South spy thriller.

Slimido - based on a true story about spies etc.

Memories of Murder - based on a true story of a failed murder investigation.

May 18th - based on the true story of the Gwanju massacre.

Crying Fist - based on a true story of a korean boxer killed in the ring.

Enjoy!

I can't say I'm any sort of expert on Korean film, but I still can't believe no one has mentioned Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... And Spring. I found it to be simple and captivating.
