Screened at the Athens (Ohio) International Film Festival

'Son of Man' was screened on Monday and Wednesday of the festival. The response from the audience was very positive. You dont have to be a Christian to appriciate this movie, just someone who cares about humanity. It's a rare movie that appeals to both types of auidences those who are Christian and those who dont consider themselves. Following the bible narrative, but updating it for the modern South Africa, this was one unique and inspiring movie going experience. 'Son of Man' has little dialogue, a good amount of music, and moments of political strife. I hope this movie gets distributed and if the producers are smart this movie has the potential to make ALOT of money (but more importantly move an audience). This movie is more meant for Christians who have a heart for third world countries, embrace fair trade, and read books by Donald Miller and Jim Wallis. More traditional or legalistic ones will walk away not enjoying as the open-minded. A satisfying, moving experience that I hope all get a chance to see.

I saw 'Son of Man' at one of the premieres in South Africa which were hosted in various churches. The response was also very positive and many people filled the church who had not been at the service beforehand showing that it generated alot of interest to many people. I think the point you make about traditional or legalistic christians is unfair. They may find an experience such as this and appreciate it because it tells the story of Jesus and although it has been updated and adapted to South African culture it is still about his life. Many may find it enlightenining and may challenge their perceptions of him as a result of watching this film.

Yeah, who knows? Maybe this will even open some legalistic eyes. I have a friend who used to be really conservative and legalistic. It drove me crazy, as I can't see how "conservative christian" is anything but an oxymoron. Then his parents got a divorce and he randomly ran away to Turkey for a month. He came back all full of real world experience and a real understanding of what Christ taught. So even the most narrow-minded "conseravtive christian" can change, if only they're shown the way.
