Dear Mark & Lena--Thank you for buying Rumors and keeping it GAY!!!...I saw the film at Newfest here in NY City and it was AMAZING!!!...I only wish we had a bar like that in NY City!...Up here the gay bars are all according to "tribe:" men, women, black, white, hispanic, asian, drag, bears, oldies, twinks, etc!...I truly envy the togetherness and sense of community provided by a place such as Rumors!...Keep up the good work and I hope we can meet some day.--Sincerely, Terry M

I really enjoyed Small Town Bar, and it really makes you realize how many small-minded people still exist in the 21st Century. I found a short interview with the director of the film, Malcolm Ingram, on his experience making the film. He also goes on to talk about how he came out of the closet in his 30s, and how he could identify with the patrons of the bars, which were subjects of his film. You can find the interview here: http://www.iklipz.com/Movies.aspx?MovieID=510689f4-daae-43c0-a29a-5f198a6acaa2

you mean fred phelps? he scares a lot of people with his inestuous(sp) litle cult, consisting mainy of his 13 kids, 50 something grandkids, and hate speech.

Is there a chemical in X that makes you dance like a prick?

Fred Phelps is one those from Mississippi are glad not to claim anymore. He's from here, yes, but left and became twisted in some fundamental way. He's settled his "church" in Topeka, Kansas now. He's quite famous for his "God hates fags" schtick, and picketing soldiers' funerals. Showtime, which is currently showing "Small Town Gay Bar", also has a documentary on him showing.

Phelps is an international joke. He has his loyal followers, but I wouldn't fear much in terms of widespread acceptance of his preachings. It seems that he's more of a target than a prophet.

That, and he just got sued for a hell of a lot of money. That opens the doors to a *beep* of other potential lawsuits by those affected by his funeral protests.

*beep* Phelps.

I just watched this movie last night (God Bless DVR). This Phelps guy creeped me out. And I'm a straight Christian male.

It's one thing to say homosexuality is a sin...that's in the bible. It's quite another thing to force your beliefs on other people. Jesus didn't eat with the "good" people, he ate with the prostitutes and tax collectors. I might not agree with the lifestyle...but that doesn't make homosexuals any less human and deserving of love and kindness.

The greatest gift God has given his children is the ability to choose. Free Will was given to man above all other creatures. Now characters like Phelps thinks he is greater than God by attempting to take the ability to choose away from others. People like him truly deserve the Hellfire they preach.

I'm straight but I thought this documentary was so amazing. From what I understand Rumors has since closed, but I think its wonderful that there is a legacy of your experiences with running the bar on film.

I wish both of you all the best in your future endeavors. If you do read this, please post back an update.

Thanks! :)
