Why would IMDB post that comment?

The post they have describing this movie is rather nasty. Sure the guy made a few points that I agree with, but I enjoyed this movie. It's offbeat and Quirky, gives a view of small town gay life which some people have no idea of. It's like being a Jew in Germany in the late 1930's, just cause we know the Germany's hate them, doesn't mean we should accept it and not talk about it. Anyway they could have chosen something more reflective of the movie and less about one man's feelings.

Yes, RegardeLaMer, YOUR comment. I applaud you for one thing: abhorring the fact that people in this country are actually so bigoted and hateful that they would treat homosexuals this way and call homosexuality "a sin." Aside from that, though, you ABSOLUTELY CAN NOT urge people, with that kind of veracity, to not see this movie simply based on the grounds that it contains hateful imagery and points out that, yes, a lot of people hate gays.

The fact remains, not everyone knows that this sort of hate exists. People who are raised to view homosexuality as a sin - and not as something to be feared and destroyed, as the rednecks in this film view it, but those who are raised as "those" kinds of Christians who are simply told that because it's in the bible, it's against god's law - don't always get to see the ugly side of homophobia and bigotry. If they happen to hear about a hate crime, they could just be told that it's an isolated thing, that the person who committed the crime is just simply a criminal and that he's a sinner only because it fell under the grand scope of murder. They might not be informed enough to know that it wasn't just a broken commandment, it was out and out hate, bigotry and homophobia, personified in the most horrific manner possible.

I'm not a gay man myself, so thankfully I've never had to deal with this kind of awfulness, but I have gay relatives, gay friends, gay coworkers and others who have been forced to confront this in some form or another. Ingram didn't glorify what happened, and he certainly didn't make light of it. He did what sometimes has to be done in this country, in this day in age, to address a serious problem that's simply NOT being taken seriously enough: He put it right in everyone's faces, exposing it for all its ugliness and evil, basically saying, "Wake the *beep* up, America! This *beep* is real, it is not a joke to be used for sitcom fodder, it's something that has to be FIXED!"

For way, way, WAY too long, this country has been plagued with the Ostrich Syndrome: Something horrible is happening/has happened, but it's not directly affecting me and it's not happening anywhere near me, so if I just stick my head in the sand and not pay attention to it, it'll just go away. This kind of thinking needs to be put to bed, forever. Films like this may not be a very fun watch, but they are absolutely necessary, RegardeLaMer. Please do everyone a service and either ammend your comment, or take it down all together. If you really believe everything you said about hating gays being so awful, make sure that those who aren't educated enough are exposed to films like this.

That kinda says it all.

A really well-thought out post was presented about an incredibly angry review about a film....that in the end is about diversity in the face of adversity and the importance of community....

And the usually long winded Regarde could best come up with.."get a life"

Oh well...

Those that can't do...teach

and those who can't teach...critique

Apparently alot of people read the IMDB reviews...as I can't tell you how many e-mails i've got about this incredibly narrow minded review..

I just read it and laughed.

But I truly appreciate all of you who have spoken out in support of the film....

I certainly don't feel the movie is above critcism....

...but sometimes I just have to shake my head at the vitirol.

Thanks for watching

Hello, I have not seen the movie yet and I am going to try and order it for my rental store for my documentary section. The town I live in is small, close to Grand Rapids, MI. This town, most people know I am gay, and, I have found them to be accepting, but, I also do not talk about my personal life. Also, I try to rent items that cater to ALL walks of life. MALX1999 - did you make this film? There are posts that have been deleted so I am not sure what other have written, I can only "assume" they were offensive to someone or hate speech (again I do not know). It does hurt when people make negative comments about homosexuals, or any other group some people consider different. Yet, people do have the freedom of speech. If you did make this documentary, or if the person who did make it reads this I commend you and wish you luck, and any other person who makes a movie that gets people thinking. It would be nice to see the world where we all get along and treat each other with respect and dignity. Have a great day!

Your review was beyond offensive. Keep turning your blind eye to issues and live in your fantasy world and nothing will ever get better.

IMDb doesn't post comments, people do. And they are entitled to their opinions just like you are. The user comments shown on the main page of the movie rotate, perhaps based on how they are rated by others. If you like another user's comment, vote for it.

So many movies, so little time...

Considering this is a documentary that review is actually very compelling. Reading the review I knew that Regardelamer was very moved by what he saw even if he didnt understand that what he felt was sorta the point. Well done film Malcolm enjoyed it very much thankyou.
