Polyamorous Ending - Possible Spoilers

For a little while in his film I did wonder if they might end up with a 3-way relationship rather than the conventional ending arrived at. It seems a silly idea in retrospect but I wonder if an indy film made now, nearly 10 years later, could end that way?
