LANGUAGE

First of all, let me say that I absolutely loved the movie.
There is one thing that I missed, though, maybe for not being either North American or Asian.
Why do the characters speak in English with their "new dates"?
Steve speaks good English and could possibly be Canadian, but what about Michelle (I am not sure if this is the right character´s name, but I am talking about the girl with whom Tran goes to live)? She obviously has a strong accent.

Thanks in advance

many immigrants will take every opportunity to speak in english if they can to practice.

The main characters Aimie and Tran are both obviously immigrants due to their accents. They speak to each other in Korean because that is their native tongue and it is more comfortable. Michelle and Steve, the other people they hook up with, are obviously natives. Naturally they are more comfortable speaking English and may not even know how to speak Korean. Michelle is the one always talking about drugs and partying. She has no accent and is very obviously a native speaker. I'm guessing because you're not from North America you don't have very good judgement on who has an immigrant's accent and who doesn't.

Aimie has a strong accent because she's a recent immigrant. Tran has one but less so. Michelle and Steve clearly grew up in North America and have no accent at all, and most likely can't speak Korean very well (if at all), so they talk to the other characters in English.

I think Aimie and Tran speak more Korean than they would in real life, if only because Tran had been living in the US or Canada for a number of years and might have forgotten or never learned the Korean words for some things. Plus, being surrounded by an English-speaking society and having to use it at school, it would inevitably filter into their conversations.
